5th Anniversary Event
Once again the 5th annual Flora Aasen Memorial Alzheimer Pro-am was an overwhelming success! The greatest success story was the weather cooperating, since it had been an unusually wet August up until the night before. Aasen says,
“I think we got lucky to have Mom help us out with the sunshine
today.” The Pitt Meadow Golf & Country Club was once again a terrific host and left some great impressions and lasting memories on a Pro-Am field of 136 players.
After a wonderful warm day on the golf course the participants relaxed with a beverage and enjoyed some deck views and the amazing trick show exhibition from Brad ‘blue tee’ Ewart. Aasen says,
“One of the best in Canada, his show is entertaining and adds to the guest experience! I got a lot of positive feedback this year on the event organization, but most of it was about the tee gifts and prizing. I guess for the 5th we wanted to thank all the participants for their continuous support, so we gave back a little extra this
year.”
The Pro-am Team event was won by golf Professional Kyle German and his team Gus Wilson, Mike Mozzone and David Potter using their 2 best par points score of 100 to take home a set of Nike Slingshot irons. Aasen says,
“This was great to see since Gus, co-owner of Nevada Bob’s is our Presenting
sponsor.” For the Golf Professionals this marks one of the biggest Pro purses available for a one day Pro-am event. So, although they are here to have some fun with their amateur partners, in the end it was all business, and who was all business this year with a score of 7-under 65, Kyle German of Mayfair G.C. His 65 was good enough for a one shot victory over Phillip Jonas, from McCleery
G.C.

Thanks to the many volunteers who donated their time to make this event the success that it is. Thanks to Industry leaders Brad Thomas from Ping, Michel Lamy from Nike Golf, Scott Smith from Callaway and Gord White from Topflight Canada for helping supply some great prizes. A special thanks to all the sponsors and auction donors for their support! Aasen says,
“The sponsor participation continues to grow incrementally each year which is rewarding considering the competition for this kind of event. Yes it’s a tribute to my Mom, but really the efforts of everyone involved are to find the cure for Alzheimer’s … that’s what it’s all
about!”
In its five-year existence the Pro-Am has raised close to $200,000 that is being used to fund research, support, education and advocacy services at the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
John and Greg Aasen founded this event in memory of their mother Flora
Aasen, who passed away in January 2000 due to complications from Alzheimer Disease. As a tribute to Flora, the Pro-Am is a celebration of her life and a great way for family and friends to remember her in a familiar setting. Aasen says,
"Anytime you can use golf as a vehicle to help contribute to such a great cause, we've been successful. I think my family is most proud of the community awareness we are creating. This year in particular, with difficult economic times, the strong support continued!"
