Great impressions and lasting
memories...
Once again the 4th annual Flora Aasen Memorial Alzheimer Pro-am was an overwhelming success! The award winning Westwood Plateau Golf &
Country Club was a terrific venue and left some great impressions and lasting memories on a Pro-Am field of 144 players.
After a wonderful day on the picturesque mountain course the participants relaxed with a beverage and enjoyed some deck views and one of the best West
Coast buffets anywhere. John Aasen says, “ from the appetizers to the dessert it’s hard to match the quality and presentation, chef Brendan and his team are some of the best. Most of the feedback was about the food!
Some players had a long day on the short but punishing track. You have to play here twice or three times to know what and where to hit it, you can’t try and overpower this course.”
The Pro-am Team event was won by golf Professional Trevor Fraser and his team Craig Fraser, Keith Klughart and Orrin Hargrave using their 2 best par points score of 106 .For the professionals this marks one of the biggest Pro purses available for a one day Pro-am event. So although
they're here to have some fun with their amateur partners, in the end it was all business. And who came out on top but, Englishman import Steven MacPherson with a score of 5-under 67. MacPherson brought a team from the North shore mountain course, Seymour G.C. His 67 was good enough for a one shot victory over Jason Andrew of Crown Isle and Jeff Buder from Fraserview

Thanks to the many volunteers who donated their time to make this event the success that it is. A Special thanks to Industry leaders Brad Thomas from Ping, Michel Lamy from Nike Golf, Scott Smith from Callaway and the late Craig Forsyth from Topflight Canada for
help in supplying the great prizes.
“At the end of the day we’ve created an event we can all be proud of when some of the members at the Golf Academy had a birthday round of golf and decided to have a 50/50 and give the proceeds to the Alzheimer charity, and last year we had a bus boy give us his tips for the evening… that’s what this event is all about!”
In its four-year existence the Pro-Am has raised upwards of $170,000 that is being used to fund research, support, education and advocacy services at the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
John and Greg Aasen founded this event in memory of their mother Flora
Aasen, who passed away in January 2000 due to complications from Alzheimer Disease. As a tribute to Flora, the Pro-Am is a celebration of her life and a great way for family and friends to remember her in a familiar setting. Aasen says,
"Anytime you can use golf as a vehicle to help contribute to such a great cause, we've been successful. I think my family is most proud of the community awareness we are creating. This year in particular, with difficult economic times, the strong support continued!"
